 The Pro-G Story

The Original Hudecheck Roofing Company

pngIn 1926 Ray Hudecheck started out on Hollywood Street in the Grays Ferry section of South Philadelphia. Vehicles were luxuries back then in Grays Ferry so the local roofers used "push kettles" for heating the asphalt used in their "hot" roofing operations. Since you couldn't push a kettle filled with hot asphalt very far, the local roofers never ventured more than a few blocks from home. Most of the steep-sloped roofs were slate or clay tile. Asphalt shingles were just starting to make an appearance. Hudecheck Roofing served as a home town roofing company within Saint Gabriel Parish for years, making through the Great Depression and World War II. Ray had two sons who would carry forth the family roofing tradition.

Ray's Sons Branch Out on Their Own

pngJohn Hudecheck went off to serve his country in WWII. Following the war brothers John and Joe went their own ways. Joe moved out to Havertown in Haverford Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. He remained in the roofing business, eventually passing his business to his son Tom. John moved out to Collingdale, also in Delaware County, PA. The company was effectively split, with both operating under the Hudecheck name. Since both were small, localized, companies, and since business was conducted almost exclusively by personal referral, each was able to operate under the Hudecheck name without much confusion or conflict.

The Third Generation

pngJohn Hudecheck had two sons who would continue the roofing tradition. Ron Hudecheck began his family, and business, in neighboring Glenolden, Pennsylvania. There he grew his small residential roofing and siding company into a sizable commercial outfit. Ron's younger brother Brian went to work for John after high school and continued the company after John's passing. After a few years, Brian went to work for Ron folding the original Hudecheck Roofing into Ron's company. Brian worked for Ron managing the residential side of the business for several years before deciding to start out on his own again. Joe's son Tom also worked for Ron for several years helping to shape the commercial segment of his business. As years passed Ron's company outgrew several shop locations moving from Glenolden to Folcroft to Crum Lynne in Ridley Township, eventually ending up in Concordville, or Glen Mills as the locals call the area.

The Pro-G Generation

gifWe are Ron Hudecheck's sons, 4th generation Hudecheck roofers carrying on the family tradition and at the same time carving our own niche out of this incredibly growing industry. Through the years the original company started by our great grandfather has had many offshoots as each generation moved to create its own identity. By our count there have been as many as six companies operating under the Hudecheck name, five of them competing for business under the same name at the same time, confusing to say the least for our customers. Because of this confusion, an increase in the number of services that we offer, and our expansion into Delaware and Maryland where the Hudecheck name was not as recognized, we made the decision to change our name to Pro-G Contractors.

jpgWe currently have locations in Delaware and Chester Counties in Pennsylvania, New Castle County in Delaware, and Cecil County in Maryland. We have added experts in the window and door trades to complement our roofing and siding business. Though we'll always be Hudecheck Roofing to many, as full service home exterior contractors, it really isn't fair to just call us roofers anymore.
We have decided on a philosophy of advising our customers of their options, recommending the most cost effective option, and educating our customers on the rationale behind our recommendation. We do not SELL our customers anything. We will investigate your problems, advise you on your options, and allow you to make an informed decision on how best to deal with your problems. We put all of our work in writing, up-front, and wait for your permission to begin. Nothing hidden, no surprises, and we stand behind our work, the way our great grandfather did it, the way our grandfather did it, the way our father did it, the way it's supposed to be done.

Give us a call. You'll be happy you did!
